This week's Funding Bulletin (March 17th - March 21st 2025)

A short summary of funding opportunities that have came to our attention this week.

Biffa Award 2025 Partnership Grants Scheme

Biffa Award, a UK wide funding initiative under the Landfill Communities Fund, has announced the opening of its 2025 Partnership Grants Scheme, aiming to support significant projects that enhance community facilities and protect the natural environment. Eligible organisations can apply for grants ranging from £250,000 to £1,000,000, with the total funding allocation for the scheme yet to be specified.

The scheme focuses on two primary themes:

Built Environment projects, which aim to restore, modernise, and improve facilities such as cultural, heritage, or visitor centres of regional or national significance, ensuring they are inclusive and inspire creativity among visitors;

Natural Environment projects, which aim to support biodiversity by protecting and restoring species and habitats, aligning with commitments outlined in national Environmental Improvement Plans and Local Nature Recovery Strategies.

Eligible applicants include fully constituted charitable or not-for-profit organisations without share capital. To qualify, projects must be within 15 miles of a significant Biffa operation or active Biffa landfill site, and within 10 miles of a licensed landfill site.

Current deadline: 30th May 2025

The Happy Days Children’s Charity

The Happy Days Children’s Charity is inviting applications for funding towards trips, respite breaks and group activity holidays for disadvantaged children and young people with additional needs.

The charity awards funding for different types of activities to support families with children aged 3-17 who have a disability, a special need or have been abused.

Grants are available for the following activities:

  • Family Day Trips - eligible trips include zoos, farm parks, theme parks, the seaside or the theatre

  • Family Holiday Breaks - a short break family holiday by the seaside or in the countryside, usually in the United Kingdom. Other destinations will be considered according to cost.

  • Group Activity Holidays - a group activity holiday to a wide variety of destinations such as outdoor activity centres, holiday camps and sailing breaks

Applications for family activities are accepted from parents, guardians, grandparents or siblings, as well as GPs, consultants, nurses or social workers.

Parkinson’s UK Physical Activity Grants Programme

Community groups and organisations across the UK can apply for grants of up to £3,000 to help people with Parkinson's to become and stay active.

The funding will support new activities that encourage people affected by Parkinson’s to participate in physical activity and sport or increase their participation in these areas.

This could be anything fun that encourages people, particularly those from isolated and ethnic communities, to get moving such as a walking group, a dance class, or playing table tennis.

Examples of what the fund will support include:

  • Equipment

  • Facility hire

  • Maintenance of equipment

  • Coaching fees

  • Training

  • Parkinson’s specific online support

  • Up to 10% of core costs

PTES' Conservation Insight Grants

The grants are open to conservationists and scientific researchers working on species listed by the IUCN as endangered or more threatened. Projects must be experimental and test new conservation methods.

Funds will be awarded for work that seeks to either:

  • Find the critical scientific evidence that will facilitate the conservation of a species

  • Provide the answer to a key conservation question, which will enable conservationists to undertake critical conservation action

  • Undertake the implementation of a key local action which will result in a significantly, positive impact for an endangered species

High priority projects include:

  • Gathering evidence needed to undertake necessary mitigation work

  • Using scientific evidence to get changes made to local, national or international policy

  • Devising and testing a new methodology for monitoring a species or group of species
