Wirral CVS' Small Grants Programme

Wirral CVS has £100,000 of funding from Wirral Council Public Health to provide small grants up to £5,000, with the majority of grants expected to be under £3,000.

We will be looking to fund activities that:

- Improve physical and mental wellbeing

- Reduce health inequalities

- Enhance social inclusion and community resilience

- Increase access to health and wellbeing activities

- Improve self-management of health conditions

- Empower communities to take charge of their wellbeing.

Eligibility:

- Organisations based and operating in Wirral

- Income under £10k in the last year

- Charities, Social Enterprises or other Community Groups that have a Governing Document (Set of Rules)

- A bank account in the organisation's name and at least two unrelated signatories, or agreement from an appropriate organisation to hold the funds on your behalf

Household Support Fund Small Grants Programme

Grants of up to £20,000 will enable community-based food and welfare support groups to provide food and essential items, support and skills to those most in need in their local communities. The application process will be through Wirral CVS.

Unlike previous years there will only be one funding round to cover Summer and Winter.

The National Lottery Community Fund's UK Fund

Voluntary and community organisations, statutory bodies, charities and partnerships can apply for grants of £500,000 to £5 million, spread over 2 to 10 years, to support projects that bring diverse communities together.

The UK Fund is open to applications from organisations seeking to scale up proven work that tackles inequality and delivers systemic change. Rather than funding new ideas, the programme supports projects that are already making an impact and have the potential to grow their reach or deepen their effectiveness.

Eligible projects must benefit communities experiencing poverty, disadvantage, or discrimination, and operate across at least two UK nations—or demonstrate clear plans to share learning nationally.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund

Not-for-profit organisations across the UK can now apply for grants of between £250,000 and £10 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for projects connecting people and communities to UK heritage.

The funding can be used to support a broad range of activities and project costs, such as:

  • Volunteer expenses, new staff posts and training costs

  • Capital works, repair, maintenance and conservation

  • Professional fees, event costs and activities to strengthen organisations

  • Acquisition of heritage and costs associated with the purchase

  • Costs to join Fit for the Future, a UK-wide environmental sustainability network

Projects must take into account the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s four investment principles:

  • Saving heritage

  • Protecting the environment

  • Inclusion, access and participation

  • Organisational sustainability

Partnerships are encouraged. Up to 10% match funding is required.

Current deadline: 12th November 2025

The Screwfix Foundation

The Screwfix Foundation is open for applications from charities and not-for-profit organisations for projects that will fix, repair, maintain, and improve the properties and community facilities of those in need due to financial hardship, sickness, disability, distress, or other disadvantage throughout the UK.

Grants in the region of £5,000 are available for a variety of projects, such as:

  • Improved energy-efficient lighting & heating

  • Installation of new kitchen, bathroom etc.

  • Installation of a sensory room

  • General painting & decorating

  • Improving the safety and security of a building

Current deadline: 10th November 2025

The Henry Smith Foundation's Domestic Abuse Fund

The Henry Smith Foundation has announced the launch of its new Domestic Abuse Fund, part of its Safer Futures strategy for 2025–2030. The fund aims to ensure survivors receive tailored, culturally appropriate support that addresses both immediate safety needs and longer-term recovery.

The programme will provide £250,000 over five years – equivalent to £50,000 annually – to around 20 organisations across the UK.

The fund is aimed at registered, not-for-profit organisations that are “led by and for” marginalised and minoritised communities, offering specialist, person-centred and holistic support to survivors of domestic abuse. Eligible organisations must have at least three years’ experience, deliver consistent one-to-one casework, provide wrap-around services such as counselling, safe accommodation or immigration advice and have a current safeguarding policy. There is no income threshold, and applications are welcome from across the UK.

Eligible projects typically include:

Specialist one-to-one casework — consistent, long-term support tailored to the survivor’s needs.

Wrap-around services — including counselling, therapy, advocacy, legal or immigration advice, financial guidance and safe housing support.

Holistic recovery programmes — addressing not only immediate safety, but also longer-term empowerment, wellbeing, and independence.

Culturally specific support — services designed to be linguistically and culturally appropriate, particularly for communities facing barriers to mainstream services.

Integrated safety and wellbeing plans — combining emotional, physical and practical assistance in partnership with other agencies.

Current deadline: 10th September 2025

Independent Age's Older People's Fund

National charity Independent Age has announced the second round of its Older People’s Fund, offering £1.2 million in grants to charities tackling financial hardship among older people, with a particular focus on those in the Private Rented Sector.

Building on a successful first round in 2024, the scheme will fund projects that align with one or more key themes:

  • Boosting older people’s income through access to benefits such as Pension Credit and Attendance Allowance

  • Reducing costs by tackling unfair charges and raising awareness of savings such as energy social tariffs

  • Improving housing security through repairs, adaptations, homelessness prevention and advice

Current deadline: 28th August 2025

The Kelly Family Charitable Trust

Registered charities whose activities support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit in tackling problems that face one or more of its members can apply for grants of up to £5,000. Higher grant amounts can be awarded at the discretion of trustees.

Both capital and revenue grants are available and the Trust welcomes requests for core operating costs in addition to project-based funding. Newly established organisations are encouraged to apply, as the Trust seeks to help charities grow and establish their services.

Initiatives supported by the Trust focus on preventing the fracture of the family unit through interventions such as practical support, relationship counselling or mediation. Proposals addressing sexual abuse, domestic or physical violence, alcohol or drug misuse and support for prisoners and their families are also supported.

Although the Trust prefers to fund charities with annual incomes below £500,000, it may consider applications from larger organisations presenting pioneering pilot projects.

Current deadline: 1st September 2025

Barchester's Charitable Foundation

Small community groups and local charities can apply for grants of between £100 and £2,500 for equipment and to support projects that tackle loneliness amongst older people (65+) and adults with a disability (18+).

The types of activities supported can include

  • Activity projects

  • Equipment and materials for use by members

  • Member transport

  • Day trips, outings and group holidays in the UK

The Foundation also makes grants of between £100 and £1,000 to help individuals, but please note that all applications for named individuals must be completed by a third party who knows the individual in a professional or community-based capacity, such as general practitioners, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers or charity/support group representatives.

The grants can help individuals with:

  • Manual and powered wheelchairs

  • Mobility scooters

  • Specialised trikes / e-bikes / bikes

  • Car adaptations
