A look into the events due during Volunteers' Week and the micro grants that support them.
Ahead of this year’s Volunteers' Week, Wirral CVS has awarded funding to 23 VCFSE organisations across the borough to help them recognise and celebrate the invaluable contribution of their volunteers.
The funding has been provided to support local organisations to thank the people who give their time, skills and energy to make a difference within communities across Wirral. From community groups and charities to faith organisations and social enterprises, each funded organisation has chosen its own unique way to celebrate volunteers during the week.
Activities planned include afternoon teas, social outings and small gifts of appreciation, all designed to recognise the commitment and impact of volunteers who support local people and communities every day.
As part of the celebrations, organisations will also receive Volunteers’ Week thank you cards and decorative materials including bunting to help create welcoming and celebratory events for volunteers.
“We are absolutely delighted with the funding. We do like to say thanks to our volunteers throughout the year, as without them, we would not be able to deliver the amazing service we do to our patients,” said Sarah, Fundraising Officer at Wirral Hospice St John's. “Volunteers’ Week though is when we really love to give them a whole week of celebrations and shine a spotlight on their fabulous work and commitment!”
Volunteering continues to play a vital role across Wirral, supporting communities through a wide range of activities including food support, wellbeing services, youth work, community transport, environmental projects and peer support initiatives. Volunteers remain at the heart of the borough’s Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise sector, helping organisations to respond to local need and strengthen community connections.
To further highlight the value of volunteering locally, the Wirral Globe is meeting with a selection of volunteers and managers from funded organisations to hear first-hand why volunteering is so important across Wirral. The feature article will be published during Volunteers’ Week and will showcase the experiences, motivations and impact of local volunteers.
Here are just some of the activities taking place during Volunteers’ Week across the borough:
Koala Northwest is taking volunteers to Ness Botanic Gardens for afternoon tea
Age UK Wirral, alongside Liverpool and Sefton colleagues, is hosting a coffee and cake afternoon for current volunteers and anyone interested in volunteering in the future
Byrne Avenue Baths is hosting a BBQ lunch for volunteers on Saturday
Positivitree are creating thank you wellbeing packs for their volunteers
Wirral Hospice St John are hosting a cream tea on Sunday 7th June
Volunteers’ Week runs during the first week of June each year and organisations across Wirral will be taking the opportunity to say a special thank you to the volunteers who support their work year-round. Throughout the week, social media will be filled with stories of appreciation, celebration and impact, helping to shine a spotlight on the difference volunteers make across local communities.
If your organisation is planning activities for Volunteers’ Week this week, there are a range of downloadable resources, graphics and promotional materials available from the official Volunteers' Week website to help support celebrations and social media activity.
