20 Minutes to a Healthier Board - Truth behind the numbers

Welcome to our very first Trustee information session designed to support you with effective, time conscious and relevant information to assist you to develop a healthy and resilient board.

Trustees, board members, committee members, directors call them what you will, in the Voluntary Community Faith and Social Enterprise sector are generally very busy people. Usually working or studying and volunteering in the evenings, or retired with a multitude of commitments, they do not have a great deal of time to work on their trustee personal development plans, and even less time to do this in a group environment.

We will use the Charity Governance Code as a framework for these sessions and you can use this as a tool at your board meetings to show how you are meeting your due diligence.

This session is presented by Kevin Ward.  Kevin is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) with an MBA from Warwick University. Starting a career in IT, then Procurement, leading to a successful career spanning more than 30 years in Finance as well as holding various voluntary positions.

The topic, which is Truth behind the Numbers, will give you some insight into accounts figures and how to challenge them intelligently.

Whether we like it or not, most of what we do for the better of today’s society comes down to money. We can have volunteers who offer their time for free, though in the main, to make a difference costs money, so it’s important to know how that money is raised and spent. During this session we’ll explore how to find the truth behind the numbers, to make them simple, easy to understand and explain.There’ll be an opportunity for you ask questions as well as help and support in the future, so please bring any examples of challenges you face now or expected in the future.
