The Care Quality Commission (CQC) are currently conducting assessments of local authorities under the Health and Care Act 2022. This Act gave the CQC new powers that allow them to provide a meaningful and independent assessment of local authorities and how they meet their duties under the Care Act 2014. Our assessment framework can be seen here:  https://www.cqc.org.uk/local-systems/local-authorities/assessment-framework

The CQC are currently undertaking an assessment of Wirral Local Authority. VCFSE Providers working within this area have the opportunity to provide some feedback around the work you do in Wirral and any experience you have of working with Wirral Council.

The general duties of the Care Act 2014 are:

  • Promoting individual wellbeing

  • Preventing needs for care and support

  • Promoting integration of care and support with health services

  • Providing information and advice

  • Promoting diversity and quality in provision of services

  • Co-operating

  • Safeguarding adults at risk of abuse or neglect

Capturing the views of the local community is an essential element of the assessment process and your organisation can get involved by sharing your views and experiences or the views and experiences of the people you support.

The information you share will form part of the assessment. Once the assessment we have completed our assessment, we will write a report with an overall rating and the report will be published on the CQC website.
