New mental health support hub for young people launched on Wirral

Updated: Nov 22

Branch offers tools, guidance and where to get help in an emergency

Last week was the launch of the much anticipated Branch online support hub. Branch serves as an online mental health resource centre catering to children and young people in Wirral, covering ages from 0 to 18 (and extending up to 25 for those with additional needs). Rather than providing services directly, it functions as a navigational aid, assisting individuals in discovering local resources and assistance.

Through the past year, representatives from Branch informed the sector of it's inception at previous COP meetings, while inviting collaboration, insight and feedback from those locally who work with young people.

Branch is overseen by multiple organisations based on the Wirral and is managed through a partnership between Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council and the Cheshire and Merseyside ICB Wirral Place (NHS).

Day-to-day, it’s supported by an alliance of organisations – Open Door Charity, Action for Children, Kooth, Utopia, Koala North West and Wirral MyMind (formerly CAMHS). Membership continues to increase steadily, aiming to provide children and young people in Wirral with easy access to a variety of excellent services.

We reached out to the CEO of Koala North West, Bev Morgan, who as a member of the alliance of local services had this to say about Branch and it's ongoing impact for the Wirral:

"The launch of Branch marks a significant step forward in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people across Wirral. This innovative new Alliance is a game-changer for our community, offering accessible, practical tools and clear pathways to local support services."

"At Koala North West, we are thrilled to be part of this collaborative effort. Our role includes supporting the communication and engagement to raise awareness of Branch, as well as delivering vital support services. Through initiatives such as our Video Interaction Guidance for teenage parents to support their baby's infant mental health and Sleep Support for families whose children are facing low-level mental health difficulties, we aim to empower families with the tools and confidence to navigate their challenges."

"The impact of Branch will extend far and wide, equipping young people with resources to help them thrive while also easing the strain on their families. It’s a privilege to work alongside such passionate partners in this alliance, and I’m excited to see the positive changes Branch will bring to Wirral’s children and young people."
