Following the 2024 COVID spring booster campaign, the opportunity arose for NHS England North West to work with Cheshire & Merseyside ICB and Cheshire & Wirral Partnership to use The Living Well Service bus to pilot a mobile cervical screening service.
The Wirral pilot will test the ‘mobile outreach’ aspect (rather than e.g. testing out of hours / specific targeted groups etc). The pilot will run for 6 weeks from the beginning of July 2025, with the Living Well Service bus attending Wirral one day per week (on different days), with capacity to deliver 25 screens per day. This is a drop-in service and no appointment is necessary.
Five GP practices within Birkenhead and Wallasey areas have been selected to participate in the pilot, informed by the areas of greatest need. The proposed GP practices include:
Central Park Medical Centre (Wallasey)
Hamilton Medical Centre (Birkenhead)
Whetstone Lane Medical Centre (Birkenhead)
Vittoria Medical Centre (Birkenhead)
Seven dates have been identified for the mobile screening service to visit Wirral between 3rd July and 4th August 2025. A schedule of these dates and locations is included below:
