Safeguarding

Support in implementing policies to protect vulnerable individuals in your organisation.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding involves implementing policies and practices to protect vulnerable individuals, such as children and adults at-risk, from abuse and harm. This includes developing and maintaining clear safeguarding policies, providing regular training to staff and volunteers, ensuring safe recruitment processes and managing risks associated with the charity's activities.

Charities must establish protocols for reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns, appoint designated safeguarding leads and regularly review their policies to ensure they are effective and compliant with legal requirements. The goal is to create a safe environment that prioritises the well-being and protection of those the charity serves.

Safeguarding Policy

A safeguarding policy is like a safety net for both the organisation and the people it serves. Here’s why it’s important:

  1. Risk Prevention: It helps prevent potential problems or harm. Think of it as a way to catch any issues before they escalate.

  2. Balanced Approach: Instead of relying solely on background checks, like DBS checks, a safeguarding policy takes a more comprehensive approach. It considers various safeguards to protect everyone involved.

  3. Thorough Checks: The policy ensures that all necessary precautions are in place. It’s like double-checking that your safety measures are robust and effective.

In short, a safeguarding policy keeps everyone safe by being proactive and thorough.

A safeguarding policy usually contains the following;

  • What safeguarding is

  • The harms that can be found

  • The way that you will report any incident that may occur

  • A code of conduct that sets out your expectations for the people in your organisation

  • A risk policy and register
